Mostly forgettable. Not bad, but forgettable.

The movie is essentially split into 2 parts. First part is "love theme", which was ok, but probably a bit too long overall. Can't say I buy into this "love", though, since it's mostly out of boredom rather than from some deep connection between the characters. The chess scene did not make much sense either, because if they are not supposed to make contact, why would both of the towers have chess sets? Doubt all the soldiers before were chess geeks and would play by themselves. Why are they forbidden contact, too? They do have same goal...

The second part is sci-fi. I would say it looks relatively good. Nothing particularly outstanding, but nothing damning as well. It is full of cliches. Which is not necessarily bad, but the movie just lack its own identity, in the end. I think if they "mixed" the 2 parts a bit more, and helped grow the "love connection" through some recurring danger it could have more impact.

But again, not a bad movie, just do not expect too much of it.
