Rimuru was not enough for them... And I think it was intentional to make this show look like it's for kids, but in reality make it so it's not really for kids, but for the pervs, that will start drawing doujinshis left and right, especially with all the subtext (and sometimes clear "text") in here. I mean, they essentially started with the a bed scene, I am sure the slime will become a "conquerable love route" in the show at some point, and not just a friend.
Other than that... Yes, I guess, it has cute art. Not sure why a slime needs to become a penguin from the start (and not an actual blob, like slimes are by default), only to become a girl specifically after some time (and not another boy, which would make a bit more sense to me). But at least there is more "action" compared to another mascot-based anime this season (Mushroom Dog).
