Rhydin was fortunate to be granted birth into Gridanian luxury. His father a wealthy blacksmith and his mother a deft weaver. He ate the best food, slept in the best bed and wore the best attire. He lived his early days wanting for nothing. Life was grand, or so he thought.
One day, while on a routine caravan trip, his parents were murdered during a raid on said caravan. There were no survivors. Upon hearing news of this, Rhydin came under political attack by those who knew his parents. Now being an orphan and having wealth under his command, he was a primary target for those who sought his parents' riches.
It was not long before his inheritance was stolen from him and the clothes taken right off his back, so to speak. With nothing left, he made off for Ul'dah where he would attempt to start anew. Upon reaching Ul'dah, he found that the city would not welcome such a child openly. He would be met with a similar fate that awaited him in Gridania. His spent his nights alone, cold and miserable.
With no other options available to him, Rhydin managed to work up enough money to purchase his first weapon through menial labor. It was this point at which his life took a pivotal turn. From here, Rhydin would become an adventurer; going anywhere the winds took him. It was in this profession that he rose from the ashes and made something of himself.
Given the events that transpired, any lesser folk would be cold and bitter. However, Rhydin was different. His days at the top and now at the bottom offered him a wide perspective of things. He did not hate those who murdered his parents or those who stole his fortune. He did not hate those who kicked sand in his face and beat him to a pulp for fun, as he struggled to make a place in Ul'dah. Instead, he looked at everything with an open mind and he understood. His experiences were what made him the man he had become. He was not thankful for the death of his parents, but he swore he would be strong so that they could rest peacefully.
Everyone has their own tale to tell. And his was just beginning.
