Hoshi has no idea where he was born or who his family was. He was sold into slavery at a young age and traded from master to master. Some were kind, some were cruel. It wasn't until he was stolen by a band of pirates that he got a taste of freedom.
They hailed from Limsa Lominsa, a city state within the country of Eorzea, and the captain believed if you're willing to work for it, you've earned your freedom. He asked 3 years of service from Hoshi, which he served fervently.
They gave him free time, they fed him, and they listened to his reasoning if he refused to do something as he never refused a job without one. They taught him skills, showed him how to fight, and taught him how to relax and enjoy himself. Hoshi had never been happier.
It was when the ship met a rival at sea that things took a turn for the worse. It was late when the ambush happened. In the southern end of the Rhotano Sea, a dark ship fired upon theirs from the misty tails of a storm. Within the hour the his home had sunk with most of its crew.
The few that made it were scooped up and put into slave service of the victor. Hoshi had a new master, but this time, he wasn't helpless. In port somewhere along the coast of La Noscea, he slipped his bonds and freed some of his old fellow shipmates.
Before the night was over, they had spirited away from the ship and agreed to split up to better their chances of escape. Shocking the locals, a few days later he cropped up in Costa del Sol and earned passage to Limsa Lominsa to seek his fortunes there.
Perhaps he'd find another motley band of companions to be his new family there and who knows where the wind may take him. For the first time, he dictated where his life would go and he was ready to take the helm!
