Carubius started out with a fine life. He came from a long line of successful merchants who made their home in a city state far to the east in Othard. The family had migrated there centuries ago from Eorzea, and branched into a well networked family controlled merchant guild that aided in the growth of a small town to an economic center for the region. Thus, anyone dealing with the Garuga name was well respected.
The eldest son of the family, Carubius was being groomed to take on leadership of the business. Charismatic and gifted, he was expected to add another successful generation to the Garuga line. Such recognition can come at a cost. A painfully spurn mother who offered her daughter's hand to his parents resulted in her giving her own life to the void to curse the promising youth with a darkness within that only brings chaos.
Within a fortnight, the Garuga son became more moody, swinging from cheerful to furious and violent with a chance of unusual elemental sparks in a heartbeat. Strange for a youngster who had shown no aptitude in magic before. A simple family spat set the curse into full swing, and within hours, the city was mysteriously decimated. One single soul sat at its center, his future crushed, his family gone, and an uncontrollable fear and self hatred in his heart, the once bright Carubius.
Years later, after a long period of wandering, he was barely the same man. Solitary, quiet, and now stern, he thought all saw him as he saw himself, a monster. Carubius grew close to no one, and didn't trust they were safe in his presence. After all, it was his anger that destroyed his home. Could it happen again? If so when? Being close was a risk not to be made.
He heard of the teachings of the Thaumaturge. He had sought a way to control the chaotic power that had grown within him after his life became cursed, and this sounded like it had potential. He must travel to the country of Eorzea, a land from which his ancestors came, and seek out the City State of Ul'dah. Perhaps there he can seek relief at last.
Little did he know that even his fate would change drastically again. He'd get a chance to return to his cheerier ways. Who knew that one with such a cursed heart could safely have companions again, let alone be a Warrior of Light!
