"My father was brought from the East as a slave in a Lominsan pirate barge. He was sold to a merchant lord in Ul'dah to fight in the arena pits as a 'beast'. After seeing the nobility with which the 'beast' fought master Thael purchased Father's contract and freed him. My father swore fealty to Master Thael for rescuing him and was adopted into his family in the tradition of the company.'

"Father never saw another of his kind in Eorzea until he met a group of merchants from Doman shipwrecked by a storm while he was selling jewelry in the markets of the Silver Bazaar. He was captivated by the beauty of this woman from his homeland, the first he had seen in years. She in turn, was fascinated by this man of so many facets. Born in the east, raised in the west, former gladiator come jeweler. He had overcome many challenges in life, but capturing her heart was the most natural and rewarding of them all.'

"My parents gave me a name from our homeland-but I was called Terynn to fit in better in Ul'dah. I was raised as the son of a jeweler; an adopted member of a wealthy merchant house. As fate would have it, I did not have to wait or go further than my own Merchant House to find the love of my life. A distant relative of my mother, who had also been shipwrecked years before, and adopted by the house of Thael had a lovely daughter, Zamaura, and her soul was the twin of my own. From our youth, we were as one split in twain.'

"The Calamity showed us that there was more important things to be done in the world than selling jewelry. I grieved for the loss of the Warriors of Light when they sacrificed themselves to stop Bahamut and we decided to follow in their footsteps by protecting people. I did not want to be coddled or derided for my family name as I might in our home of Ul'dah and I knew that my father had fought with a type of polearm from our homeland...so I traveled to Gridania and took up the way of the lancer, while Zamaura learned to fight with a bow.'
