Originally from the Hipparion tribe on Vylbrand, Kaito chose to leave rather than fight over the position of Nunh. He crossed the sea and ended up on the western shore of Thanalan, and then slowly made his way east and north. He did not find much welcome in any of the other tribes he encountered; about the only solace he found were in the main cities, where he could lie more easily about his origins.

Eventually he boarded a trading ship headed to Kugane and was immediately captivated by the unique culture. He made his home there for a few years and adopted a more appropriate name using the local language. Unable to completely abandon his roots, he based his new name on his original. (K'roba)

Years later, he returned to Limsa Lominsa and picked up the study of arcane geometry, opting to become a Scholar when the time came to choose.
