Rinala Ahto is a young Moon Keeper Miqo'te born and raised in the Silver Bazaar, on the edge of the sea in Thanalan. From a young age she knew how to fish, how to swim, and she loved to dance, loved the traditional music of Thanalan. She loved the sound of the sea and the vistas of the arid landscape and the glittering stars at night. But instead of going to Ul'dah to earn her living as a dancer, she and her family scrimped and saved until she could study conjury in Gridania, as it was her dream to save people, not harm them - though a little harm for evil-doers wasn't completely offensive to her.
She was returning home to visit her family when she was swept up into the events of the 7th Umbral Era, rapidly falling head-over-heels in love with a dashing white-haired bard who saved her life multiple times while she was attempting to save other lives. He teased her and flirted with her and praised her and frustrated her until her poor heart was quite mixed up. And her friend Chuchupa didn't help, buying her a Thancred plushie from a toy store when Rinala was fretting over one of his absences. It's one of her dearest possessions, though she'd be horribly embarrassed if he found out.
Rinala chooses to use her childhood nickname, which her mother gave her, as her surname, judging it renders her slightly more memorable than otherwise. She is both sweet and gentle, and playful and stubborn. She's picked up the phrase 'baka!' from a pair of Doman siblings who studied conjury at the same time as her, and doesn't hesitate to use it on silly self-flagellating bards or idiot daredevil dragoons. Yda and Y'shtola are basically her new sisters. She's not that bright, and is definitely the most naive and timid Warrior of Light, but she has a tender, if insecure heart and does her very best to support her friends.
