Where Snow Falls
Born as Rioux Valsaire to Astreux Valsaire, son of Egrix Valsaire and Initte Ruruet, and Razie Rieveur, daughter of Ciozert Rieveur and Zetinne Deaudaire, Rio being born female was a slight to her father. Her name was granted as though she was a boy, and she was raised without delicacy or daintiness that an Ishgardian woman would have otherwise received. Her mother was absent much of her life due to traveling and trading around Eorzea, her father being a prominent figure in her life as he remained in the Holy See.
Astreux is an esteemed member of Ishgard and does much business in Coerthas, as well as having been an accomplished archer in his younger days. Both parts of his life he wished to have Rioux follow in his footsteps with, but she soon fancied more the life her mother led as a merchant and crafter. As she grew older, her father's disdain was only made more evident as Rioux hit puberty, her body blossoming far more ladylike than her once-boyish persona would have allowed. Seeing it in vain, Astreux soon relinquished his goal of raising his daughter as his son, but his dream of having a successor did not wane.
As time went on, Rioux took to writing her name as merely "Rio", trying to evade the more-masculine spelling her father forced upon her. Her mother, Razie's, time at home grew less and less, to the point where in the psat five years, Rio still has yet to see her mother again. Letters were written between the two, becoming more scarce to the point of being exchanged monthly, then annually. Rio is still eagerly expecting her mother's letter for this current year. Rio would write about her father's forced goals upon her, then how he no longer seemed to care for her in then-recent times once she was reaching young-adulthood, but her mother brushed it off as just something she would have to make up for once Razie returned home again.
After becoming a Warrior of Light, Rio has found herself following her father's footsteps originally as an Archer before settling as a Bard, but finds crafting a far more enjoyable use of her time. Her adept skills with gathering after the harsh mountainsides of Coerthas benefit her newfound talents of the hand.
