Josef was born in a village on the outskirts of the Ala Mhigo region. His parents were devout and traditionalist, and they favored his older brother, who took after their ways much better than Josef. Josef always had to do things his own way, and ultimately chose severance from his family to seek his own path in life. Getting away from Ala Mhigo enabled him to escape subjugation by the Empire, whose motives he wouldn't mind getting to know a little more about.
