Originally hailing from a small town in the region of Hingashi, Yuu Tayuun traveled to the land of Eorzea in hopes of starting a new life after an unfortunate incident that previously happened. Yuu once studied at a small private Hingan academy by the wish of her busy, scholarly mother. Her classmates were not comfortable having a person of such tribal origins attending the same academy as they were, and harassed Yuu for such reasons every day. Throughout all the banter and insults thrown at her, Yuu remained tolerant while keeping high marks during her time there.
One day during Yuu's third term at the academy, a classmate lashed out and physically attacked her. Even though this was the first time Yuu was ever violently assaulted, her fight or flight instincts awoken and she attacked back in self-defense. Unfortunately this was part of the young boy's malefic scheme into getting her expelled, as an instructor conveniently saw her striking back and apprehended her shortly after. The plan followed through as Yuu was quickly expelled by the principal from the academy without giving any warning.
Yuu's mother was quickly notified of the events from the perspective of the opposition, and she became furious at Yuu. Yuu tried to explain her account, but her mother was so worried about her own reputation that she did not care for it at all. Her mother eventually tried to remove Yuu from her life by locking the door before Yuu came home and not providing her any meals. Yuu soon came to face the fact that her mother had disowned her.
From her studies, Yuu had learned about the land of Eorzea and the calamity that unfolded there years ago. Traveling merchants had told Yuu about how the reconstruction there provided opportunity for a lives and a fresh starts. After much hesitation, Yuu accompanied a trading caravan that was destined to the port city of Kugane in hopes of her catching a ship to Eorzea. With a weathered axe an adventurer donated to her on the caravan and a sack full of gil she collected when she was young, Yuu boarded a vessel heading towards the renowned marine city of Limsa Lominsa.
