Galathèe Neree is a harmless eccentric, a conjurer of no small power, a sartorial fanatic, or, as her associates have it, an idiot. Once an orphan forced into the dangerous work of sheep herding, she suffered severe trauma when bobbing for apples at a festival. She no longers answers to her original (orphanage-generated) name, 'Adele Nechledil.'

She has since claimed to be a daughter of the sea (with forty-nine sisters, i.e., the waves), specifically Galateia Nereidina. Her name is the modern Elezen rendering. She is a decent swimmer and loves any body of water, including overflowing baths and carp ponds. So far the sea has been silent on the matter.

Whether from some special rapport with water elementals or through a freak of nature, Galathee heals with a power beyond that of simple medicines and hedge wizard tricks. Though quickly moved by pity or sentiment, she hears a greater calling than that of healer.

A disciple of the School of Coolness, she believes that Clothes Make the Nereid and the fate of Eorzean fashion rests on her slight shoulders. Adventurers often sarcastically compare her latest ensemble to a bad three-layered cake, and lament her uselessness in anything beyond healing or party tricks.

Inexplicably she moves in 3/4 time, which sounds ridiculous and defies explanation. She stole her favorite song, »Einmal möcht' ich so verliebt sein«, from an obscure operetta.

Galathèe sometimes moonlights as a retainer to fund her sartorial calling. Her good nature and patience are usually wasted on greedy or weaselly employers.
