K'haal originally came from the tiny, not very well known nomadic clan Unok in the Azim Steppes. He had shown a lot of promise protecting and hunting for his tribe once he was of age and through this wanted to pursue becoming a novice lancer at some point in his life. You know how kids are, wanting to be cops or firefighters or go into the army and fight and have so much pride in what they do!

The Unok are probably some sort of small livestock/animal produce traders and hunter-gatherers, and his clan may have gotten in contact with another tribe or race all together to trade foodstuffs but when they did so his father and a few other individuals got sick from whatever they had gotten from trade. His father was worse off with an extremely sick (OOC knowledge: a debilitating neuro-degenerative virus) with something he somehow picked up either from the trading or another thing entirely by coincidence, while the others got off a bit more lightly with just stomach viruses. They just don't know what it is exactly and while the others got better K'haal's mother attempted tap into their own medicinal supplies, even going so far as to send someone out to get professional medical help from a doctor. Despite all this, K'haal's father just got worse and worse and no one could figure out why.

With his innate fighting abilities and his unrest over his father, he wanted to do something more proactive and either search for a doctor who knew what this was and could help, or if it came down to it, be able to accrue money through hired labor and send small fortunes back to his clan to help the family he left behind in the case of his father passing while he was gone. So he decided to seek passage via ship to sail over seas to a new land and start his journey. That's where the main story quest starts.
