Last interview was conducted on . This is what adventurer had to say during it:

Nico Demarais hails from Gridania, where he experienced the loving but sometimes stifling affections of his relatively well-to-do Duskwight parents. The Demaraises only secured their comfortable lifestyle by keeping out of trouble and out of sight of the authority-minded-eyes that might see a Duskwight and think up a crime worth goal time for the inconvenience. They hoped that Nico would do the same. He was quick to befriend the eldest son of a local school-teacher, one Etienne Penne. For a time the two were nearly inseparable, and a common sight among the chocobo stables and trees of Bentbranch Meadows.

It was not to last. When Nico was barely of ten summers, Etienne left for Ul'Dah, assuring his friend that he was simply going to boarding school and would be back soon. Two years later, having heard nothing from Etienne, Nico set out to the Jewel of the Desert to follow him without a word to his parents. Playing at the job of detective, Nico picked up a job as a dishwasher at the Quicksand, and under the careful watch of Momodi listened for any whispers of his absent friend. A year or so into his work, a group of traveling dancers passed through the establishment. Nico, entranced, snuck along to several of their shows. The group invited him for a lesson, and once he'd proven his suitability for the roll, formally included him as a member of their troupe.

It was Nico's first true breath of fresh air and freedom. To be the center of attention was all he had ever desired, and there was very little he would not do to retain the position. Nico spent five years perfecting his twirls and turns, for a time entirely forgetting what had brought him to Ul'Dah in the first place. The city swallowed him whole, riches and shadows in equal measure.

And then he found his long-awaited lead, though not at all the one he was hoping for. Etienne was gone from Ul'Dah, retired from the gladiator's profession. Nico pursued the trail to Costa del Sol, where Etienne's father informed him that his friend was off to Kugane. The bitterness of having been left behind twice coiled like a venomous snake in Nico's chest. He did not let it show, and instead invited Benne Penne to a game of Triple Triad. Even now, the two spend every other weekend playing cards or chess.

It took another five years for Nico to reunite with Etienne, though neither quite remembered the other correctly. Nico found himself resentful of the now rather independent Etienne, and the guilt that Etienne expressed on his behalf only fanned the flames of his simmering anger. While their views no longer align to the point of friendship, Etienne and Nico have something of an understanding, and neither wishes harm upon the other.

Nico Demarais is decidedly vain and easily made jealous. He is meticulous about appearances and quick to say whatever he is thinking, even should it sting. He is not a Warrior of Light, but wherever Etienne goes, you may find him five steps behind.
