Kivallier hails from the Coerthan Western Highlands, among the green rolling pastures, gentle woods, and rivers teeming with fish. The Farflamme family had a long tradition of breeding chocobos, as did many other families in the area. Though other families bred the fastest stock, smartest and strongest at fighting, or the sleekest and most beautiful, the Farflamme family’s chocobos were known for their endless endurance, able to carry rider and gear far and long without tiring. The chocobos were known even among Ishgard’s best couriers for their stamina and through their patronage, the Farflamme family lived comfortably for generations.
Then the Calamity came, and with it the devastating changes in the landscape. The fields and farms quickly became encased in deadly ice, and the Farflamme family’s birds fled, one by one, into the lands of the Dravanians to seek food and more hospitable climes. Soon they were on the brink of starvation, and Kivallier’s parents were lost while desperately trying to reach some edible fish, when the ice collapsed under their weight.
Kivallier took the family’s last remaining chocobo and headed towards refuge in Ishgard, but found no welcome there. The city was dealing with its own problems, among them dragon attacks and a massive influx of refugees in situations similar to his own. Finding no future in the city besides joining the begging masses in the Brume, he traded a necklace and ring for passage to Limsa Lominsa. He kept himself and his chocobo fed and housed thanks to the odd jobs that always needed doing, and slowly found his feet again in the sun and sandy seas of La Noscea.
Having met all kinds of individuals in his travels, some with ulterior motives and others simply trying to survive, Kivallier decided to see for himself how much was out there to discover. Knowing firsthand the pain of loss and desperation, he tries his best to assist those he meets along the way, that their fate need not be as grim. In spite of his experiences, he tries to remain friendly and supportive of those close to him, with his trusty chocobo always at his side. Although he is shy at first, once he considers you a friend, he will always find a place in his heart for you. Quick to smile and laugh and slow to anger, he is always ready to defend his friends or attack those who would cause them harm.
