Bio:
“Old and grumpy” is the usual impression Bere leaves, so much so that most would be forgiven for assuming he has always been this way. He’s short-tempered, taciturn, and bears the scars of a lifetime of combat, including a particularly battered and flattened nose. There are some rumors that he fought in Uldah’s coliseum in his youth, but that would have been several decades ago, and he clearly didn’t make enough of a name for himself to be remembered.
He has lived the life of a wandering adventurer and occasional bodyguard for the past twenty years, and takes his role seriously when forced to work with others. He claims more responsibility for himself than is necessary, and any failure to keep those in his care safe is treated as a personal failing rather than unfortunate circumstance. Perhaps due to his overly serious nature, he is frequently haunted by memories of past failure, and none of his romantic relationships (and few friendships) have managed to survive this.
He enjoys fishing, but can’t cook at all and usually eats his catch raw. He’s not at all concerned with comfort and frequently sleeps on the ground or in trees. Due to these habits, and overall poor hygiene, he has more than once been chased away from settlements on the assumption that some nuisance beast, perhaps an unusually large opo-opo, has taken up residence nearby.
