I watched this movie a lot as a kid. Tried it again, and it's still good in my opinion. At least if you do not expect "high art" from it (similar as you should not with Faculty, that came out a few years earlier). Premise is simple, jokes are sometimes stupid (definitely could use less butt jokes), but it all just works. It is probably the pacing and that humor along with relatively decent CGI. I am sure it could use some more "serious" notes here and there, but that probably would break the pacing. You should not watch it with a "science mind", too: stuff here is mostly sci-fi-babble, rather than anything really coherent. Just grab some snacks, kick back and relax.
