If you are a kid - you probably will like it. Don't know if to same extent as kids loved Frozen, but still. If you are braindead or watch this in a braindead-like state - maybe as well. But otherwise this will be forgettable.

To be honest, I can't say I remember much from original movie, but I do remember some things, especially the fact, that it had a good progression both story- and character-wise. There was a sense of risk, at least in parts of the movie. Sequel felt "safe". Probably too safe even. I think best example is the episode with the giant clam, which clearly was supposed to be a "uncontrollable force of nature", but in reality just stand there looking like a mountain for majority of the time, that we saw it.

There are no risks here. No sense of danger. And no, I do not think it's because of cliches. I believe that's because sequel follows almost exact pattern of the original. So, if you saw original, nothing will surprise you, and at times it may even feel boring, especially if current song is not exactly your style.

Lack of risks and challenges makes this story kind of pointless, since it does not do much, although it's clear (even without the promise of 3rd movie at the end), that this was meant to expand the "world of the story". Makes sense why it was originally planned as a TV show, and I think it would have worked better. There are elements that are being introduced one moment, and then practically forgotten the next one, or those that do not make mush sense in movie's timeline. Good example is the farmer: he is useless in this journey, and did not do much of anything. Yet, I was constantly reminding myself, that there were, indeed, cases when long-term voyages had gardens (and animal farms) for the sake of replenishing foods. Not often, but that still would have been an interesting educational moment for children, if it was a TV show with an episode dedicated to the farmer.

Is this a bad movie, though? No, not really. It does look good, songs are not as catchy, perhaps, but you still can enjoy it overall. But there is definitely no artistical or societal impact here. This is a completely commercial product, nothing more.
