Maybe it's because it's been awhile since I've watched previous movies and original TV series, maybe it's because of other more recent and more polished (to an extent) mindfuckery anime (Sonny Boy, Wonder Egg Priority), but the finale did not feel that satisfactory.
It looks good and mindbending, but it felt as if everything was done specifically for the looks and the plot and psychological was just a way to link the unlinkable.
I think main problem here is the format of a movie. Original series was weird for me, that's for sure, but it has certain pacing, that did help it feel icky, that there was something actually deep going on, that there was a reasonable and explainable progression. First 2 movies changed perspective slightly, probably to make it fit into 2 movies. 3rd one accelerated the formula a bit, but it was more or less acceptable, due to time skip. And the 4th is much more faster, as if "we need to finally finish this and forget about it forever". Or maybe I just grew up a bit.
So... In terms of narrative - 2/10. In terms of visuals - 9/10, at least.
Oh and the best thing about this movie, that it proves to everyone, that Mari is actually the best girl in the series and it was wrong not to have her in original series.
