The idea probably started as "what can we do so that there would be lots of naturally low-angled shots?"
Very poor execution, though. In the very beginning it was clear, that the girl was NOT holding a dog due to position of her arms amd distance between dog's view and the girl. And then not once did the boy question that he is looking at everything from the floor. He did not find that obvious fact strange at all.
