ある魔女が死ぬまで

This show made very little sense.

So, the older witch did not tell the girl about the imminent death at a (relatively) exact moment, but decided to not share it before the girl had exactly 1 year left to live. But then the way to save the girl is for the girl to collect "tears of joy" (which already turned out to be a soft requirement, at least), specifically 1000 of those. With just 365 days. So 2.7 people per day. That's a Herculean task if I ever saw one. And the logic behind that is "because otherwise the girl would not act". Yeah, deadline can sometimes help, but they need to be reasonable.

But, of course, this is done purely for the drama. Who wants to bet, that the last episode will be 1 day before her 18th birthday, she will have less than half of those "tears", so unreal to complete, but in the nick of time she saves a village or a town or even whole country (if not the world). That's very predictable. And annoying.

Just as annoying as the girl herself. Yes, I understand that part of it is that she is supposed to be goofy, and perhaps aloof, but that does not really mesh with what was told to us about her so far. Granted, there was not much time spent on this, but what little information was shared, suggested that she would be just a little bit reserved, although still open and cheerful and ready to help.

But what's worse, she is.. What's the term?.. "Mary Sue"? Of course she just new that it was sakura blossoms. She probably never been to Japan, or even if she had, there was no guarantee, that she saw them. But I guess her mind is also magical, so she magically acquired knowledge, that does not seem to mesh with the world I was preserving.

She was not the only problem, though. The father-daughter interactions felt... Inauthentic. Both the girl and the father were too cheerful. I can understand the dad trying to maintain a positive facade, but it did not make much sense for the girl, especially, since she understood what was happening. I did not feel any loss from them, even though this was a good opportunity for something deep and truly touching (more than that yuri moment earlier in the episode).

So, yeah, dropping this. If you want a girl collecting candies with purpose, Kobato seems like a better watch, even though I don't think it had a cute owl.
