The Crow (2024)

This is the kind of trash you get when you give a brutal story to some... Pussies. I have no idea how else to call these people. Pussies, who know about good writing even less than I do. Although, I can't speak for the whole movie, unfortunately, because I just had to drop it after 50 minutes, because I just could not believe the trash I was seeing. I just had to get original movie to rewatch it and see if I was misremembering and it was also trash (spoiler: it was not).

50 minutes of my life were wasted watching some generic love-story, that was trying to present the "lovebirds" as "edgy". For no apparent reason. I did not see the point in them being addicts even, although that could have been used in some mind-fuckery. Just 2 people, who had no chemistry, and literally no connection, suddenly have a connection and "love" each other. In a way, that's Stanislavsky would not have believed.

It was utterly boring, but I pushed myself through, hoping, that the transition to The Crow will be satisfying, but it was not. It was also extremely generic and uninspiring. The moment of death felt quite flat, it did not feel brutal in any way, let alone brutal enough to inspire "gods" or whatever The Crow represents to resurrect someone. They also just had to put in some completely pointless "purgatory-like" dimension and mysterious man in there, because someone had to spell things out in a safe manner.

They completely missed the point of what original good, and why all follow-ups were not as good either (although 2nd and 3rd ones had killer soundtracks still). Heck, they even added devil contract to just make a play at "humans are not evil, they are corruptible", which only weakened the whole idea. And yes, judging by trailers it is possible that there was some more brutality further on, but visual brutality is nothing, if there is no context. I mean, do you think people liked Mortal Kombat for brutality itself? No, they liked it for the gameplay that allowed them to achieve this brutality through skill.

So, don't waste your time on this. Original was remastered for 30 years anniversary and even has a 4K edition, so better watch that one. Even short interaction between mother and daughter there has more meaning and chemistry than 50 minutes of this trash.
