The American Society of Magical Negroes

People are being too strict with this movie.

There's been a lot of claim of racism (from both sides), but I think people who claim this movie is racist either have not watched it at all or completely missed the point of the story. It is about racism, but it is trying to mock racist stereotypes and how modern "diverse" culture is often diverse only "on paper". It also mocks some old(er) media where black characters were often support characters rather than main ones. Is it doing the mocking with high standards? Maybe not, but it is trying.

Some say that it feels awkward, and I can see that, it probably is, at least at times, but it may be intentional, especially considering the overall premise of the movie of white men feeling uncomfortable. And the main character is trying to discover his own courage, too, so maybe it makes sense that he is awkward. I get it, that the type of humor that stem from this is not for everyone, but it's not entirely bad either.

I think my main problem is that it may be a bit too long, it probably could be like 20 minutes shorter, and faster pacing could do wonders for it. It is also a bit tame, especially in terms of magic (at least outside of "the normal world"). But overall I enjoyed it as a one-time watch, would give it a 6/10, and I would not mind a sequel exploring the (somewhat predictable) final plot twist.
