Episode 4:
I am a bit conflicted about this episode. I understand the need to delve into Subaru's past and his feelings about the whole isekai situation, since it was not touched upon before (which was a bit strange, considering he did not become a super-duper guy as usually happens), but felt... Forced. Even the hazy light was too bright, as if agreeing with this being forced. It is off-pace, not dramatic, not psychologically deep enough, rushed. He had fear of school, of being compared, of being not worthy? Then why is it so bright and positive here from the get-go? You can compare it to Ishigami's episode in Kaguya-sama's second season to see how vastly better the transition can be shown. Yes, Ishigami's case is a bit different, his fear is different, but it's fear of being judge, thus it's a fair comparison. And the worst thing is... Whole season feels too bright and positive compared to how down-to-earth the first was. I do not feel the danger, the risk. Don't get me wrong, positive outcomes also allow for character development, but the world is supposedly due to go to hell and it should not care for Subaru's regrets. That's why it made sense, that they were not touched upon in first season. So I understand why they are doing this, but it's done blatantly bad. I hope that they are actually building something worthy with all these rainbows.
