I really like Eris progression. Do you remember how annoying and unlikable she was when originally introduced to the show? Great character development. Compared to it, Rudeus is standing still.

Episode 5:
Well, let's be honest, Paul did behave like a dick because if quite a few assumptions and misplaced expectations. Firstly, I do not remember there being a lot of indications that others were teleported anywhere, besides those near Rudeus at the time. Secondly, even there were, survival comes first no matter what: even on airplanes you put oxygen mask first and then on your child. It's not unnatural to forget about others while trying to reach some sort of "good" and "stable" and "safe" place. Thirdly, from Paul's perspective, Rudeus IS a child, yes, a smart and quite skillful, but still a child, that was somewhat lucky at times. Fourthly, how would Rudeus know about a message for him and where to as for it? Why would Paul even assume, that Rudeus will go to a specific adventure guild?
I understand his grief and all, but he is being unreasonable. Perhaps, this is related to Norn (or what's her name) being unexpectedly grown-up for roughly 2 years.
Also, I think more anime need to adopt exposition shots instead of openings. They can provide more lore and even story progression than any music video.
