I like how "grounded" it is. Death from overwork, mostly logical reactions from both MC and other characters, especially the last reaction from Elen. Since it is like that, the way the lore was being weaved into the story felt very natural.

I really like how grounded this is. The guy even started questioning, whether he can continue using his powers with no toll on himself.

Also, I am pretty sure, that noseless guy is the source of the plague. Most likely he was infected, but is able to survive somehow.
