Potential HAOS (Healing Anime of the Season, patent pending).

This is also an attempt at selling nostalgia, similar to Yaiba, but it, at least, works better for me, since it feels like a more mature story, more mature than Ranma, too. Which is, probably a double-edged sword. I do not think I was laughing at anything during the 1st episode, and that's totally fine considering the overall setup, but there should be a good dose of humor in the future for the sake of balance and the mentioned healing. Something tells me there will be plenty of it, though.

Mostly because of Anne herself. She is quite a character for sure, and I expect she will annoy quite a few people (both in the show and in real world), due to how talkative she is. She is also smart, but somewhat silly (or just appropriately childishly naive?), and that probably will bring her some trouble down the line, too, and that, in turn, will cause some laughs. And some frustrations for her new family, but we already see her affect on them (which may be just a bit fast).

I do have a little bit of concern, but it's more result of personal preferences. I am somewhat afraid that it may become purely slice-of-life without real progress through each episode. Like an anthology, essentially, similar to that new show set in a ballpark. That would not make the show any worse by any measure, but just not something for me. Of course, it's too early to predict that.

Episode 2:

I thought it would be HAOS, and it probably still can be, but it was painful to watch this episode. Specifically the way Marilla interacts with Anne. I know this is intentional, and she will become better and softer, this is obvious. But it just hurts. I had similar interactions with my parents (arguably worse), there was no hope of them getting better over time, and they, in fact, did get worse. So when I see similar... "Mistakes in parenting" I just want to yell at Marilla, if not even hit her. And it's not like she was entirely wrong, it was a good move to ask Anne to apologize, but she still posed this as "Anne, you are at fault here", when she was not. She might have behaved in a way that may be perceived as rude, but she was not in the wrong. As result, Anne will not really learn anything from this besides the fact, that sometimes she needs to apologize pompously to get to eat.

Again, I understand why. If this was a movie, I probably would not be bothered as much, since it would have ended soon, but from what I understand relationship with Marilla is one of the main themes, and I just don't want to feel the same frustration. Will give it a chance for now, though.

Episode 3:

I definitely like that Marilla has become softer this episode, and was able to admit, that she was wrong, but... It felt too abrupt. On the other hand we already had similar moment before, it may be somewhat understandable. I guess, my main problem is that there was not as much "contemplation" on her side, and she just switched gears with a snap.

Also, was there a time skip or something? How did Anne became a head of the class? Isn't that a leadership position? How did she earn it so fast? The few moments shown in the supercut did not suggest her being exemplar in everything. She was good or at least not a failure, yes, but even if she was the best student, that does not necessarily make one a class head, no? Or am I missing something?
