My response to a LinkedIn post, which I believe is important enough to share.
Interestingly, all 4 problems are connected and probably realistic to be addressed..
Unemployment rate is high for many reasons, but one of them is that foreigners can't find a job for a very long time. This in turn has many reasons, too, but one that is probably completely missed is debt and costs of living: I am aware of people looking for a job, but unable to get one legally because if they do YLE would take a huge chunk of the money and make it impossible for the person to live decently. So they stay unemployed.
While racism is a difficult topic, and sometimes people do not realize they are being racist, a huge part of the problem is the populist politics, taking an easy way out of things and blaming foreigners for all the problems. Something, that history has shown to be a bad idea. Not saying there is no need for control of immigration, because there are "bad actors", but doing politics with "bad faith" mentality does not help.
Can't say much about healthcare system, since my contact with it is limited, and all of it has been done through occupational contract and Terveystalo. I am generally pleased with it. But based on what I know huge problem is... Lack of people in public care, and as such - huge queues. Wonder why there is a lack of people?..
I am not a drug user, never even tried smoking, but my experience with searching for a job a year living on significantly less money, than I am used to (even considering I had savings, that helped) even when I am a senior specialist was depressing. If I was not on quetiapine at the time, I would not be surprised to have suicidal thoughts, as I did almost 20 years ago.
If you have not noticed a pattern here: all 4 things are connected. Or at least they do have some overlap. The new changes being enforced will make the overlap even bigger while being sold as solution to reduction of the overlap. But that is not based on any data. I do not have a clear-cut answer here, since I simply do not see the whole picture, but I would say we first need to gather data on currently/recently unemployed people to understand *why* they are unemployed (and/or why they think they are, at least).
Perhaps we can make a survey for this? Drop possible questions for it in the comments.
