I think anime version of Subaru "facing his past" was much better. I think it had a bit more meet on the bones. Or maybe it was a bit more emotional? In manga it felt very flat and rushed, and I am not even sure what exactly was he facing in his past.
Chapter 41:
The way Subaru switches makes me think, that he is bipolar. Yes, there are usually external stimuli for both depressive and manic states, but it’s not like those are excluded in real life cases.
