A really good watch. Somehow reminded me of "Bourne" movies (the first 3, at least), even though, technically, it's a different genre even. It is kind of similar, though, since Jackal is acting kind of like a spy with all the preparations and blending in, and is very methodical and calculating (most of the time).
Redmayne is a perfect cast here, delivering outstanding performance. I would watch him doing this hitman stuff all day. But he is not good ad just the "cold killer" play, he was perfectly emotional when it mattered, too. I honestly think that without him the show would not be as good.
That is not to say it's outside of Redmayne. Not at all. It has very good direction and camerawork, very good pacing, knowing when to speed up and when to slow down just a bit. It Impressive attention to detail, and overall atmosphere was great, even somewhat fatalistic. One could blame it (and probably the original book, too) to be a "evil rich men" cliché, but it does work here.
I think my only complain is that... 2nd season was announced. And it looks like it will be a continuation. I really liked the show, but I do not think they need to continue the story. The open (and slightly fatalistic) ending works perfectly. New season will inevitable shift focus, since the goals of the characters are now different, and I think it will be extremely difficult to maintain such a high bar. Unless it's a prequel. But, we'll see when it comes out, of course.
