Checked "Sleepless Beauty" (Я Не Сплю). For some reason it's currently available only in English, even though it's a Russian movie. It's not a bad attempt at a "torture horror", but it's quite weak. "Saw" movies (at least earlier ones), "Martyrs" were way more accurate in terms of psychological aspects.

"Saw" movies were telling the stories of the victims, making them relatable, even if not always likable. Also, despite the puzzles, the rules were clear and I do not remember any kind of trickery: you always had a clear-cut choice. In here - no story for the few characters, they are not relatable. And there is trickery in the "tasks". So it's not like the girl gets to make a touch choice, it's more like she is not actually given one.

And "Martyrs" were way better at depicting how torture day in and day out led to catatonic state. At least, from the French version. I think English one was more mellow, I guess. It was gritty, it was uncomfortable, but it was... Gradual. Here it's just... It's a bit stupid, really: instead of going with conditioning, they finally do a physical procedure. And that ruins all the effort the kidnappers did before that. And the results of those efforts did not make much sense from psychological view, regardless.

And the premise of the movie was weak. Too cliched, with no backbone. The only "good" thing here could be the nod at the "trash-streams", looking at violence vicariously for ones own pleasure but even that is done toothlessly.

If the moviemakeкs decide to do something like that, they need to get a good crime-pscycologist and a good narrative designer. So far it's more maybe 5/10 at most.
