Recently on LinkedIn I was approached by representative of a certain company, who said, that they are looking for someone with my skills, and asked to let them know if I am interested. With no details of the job, essentially just name of the company, which was registered in Finland in 2020, but seems to be a branch of a larger one.
Since I am looking for a job - I bit and said that I am curious. I was provided with 3 links: 1 link to company's website, which may not necessarily be related to the Finnish branch (if it is real), link to a LinkedIn job posting, which is not accepting any applications (that is "closed") and does not have any details about the job besides a list of requirements (quite reasonable ones, though).
The last link is the most interesting: it is different from main website in its top-level domain name (.ai instead of .com), but that can happen. What is of interest is that it requires you to signup. There is nothing on the website other than a signup form.
I am not new to this, though: Nordea, for example, also requires you to register in their own system, and there are lots of companies that use TeamTailor or WorkDay, which also generally require you to signup. But what am I being asked to signup for? What is the job? I asked and the representative said... "I do not know". Say what?
I was honest and said, that I felt it was disrespectful to me. Because it is: it shows that the company or, at least, the representative does not respect my time. And the way it's presented feels more like... Well, if not a "scam", then, at least, "spam". As if they want to get as many people to signup, as they can. For what purpose? If it's for work, whatever it is, why can't you share details of what is expected?
I waited for several days for some response after that, but... None has followed. Hence, I still tend to believe, that this is spam/scam. Thus, I'm writing this post and reporting the chat to LinkedIn. If they do confirm my suspicion in some way or form - I will even share screenshot(s) of the chat. For now - just the name: "Telus International Ai Finland Oy". Or just TELUS Digital. And while they do confirm in one of their messages on LinkedIn, that .ai is their domain, the overall approach is not something I can approve, and I would suggest you think carefully before dealing with them.
