This is so true and so powerful. And I am not saying this because I am white. I am saying this because I am Russian, that is I lived most of my life in a country that is *extremely* racist. Like it's *in the core* of the Russian society to be racist, and do that in a way, that a lot of people simply do not notice it: "We saved the world from nazi", "We have special history", and that kind of bullshit.
If my mom was alive today, she would flip from me having a Ukrainian girlfriend. The moment I would tell her that would become her 2nd attempt to kill me. To be more precise, she probably would not mind me taking my girlfriend to bed (to put this very politely), but she would not have tolerated supporting a non-Russian girl in any way, especially financially.
And I am saying this while I also saw the examples of those Russian stereotypes about people of other races. I mean I saw immigrants behaving "poorly" or "badly", in a way that one could start questioning, why the hell these people are allowed to live at all, let alone in "my country". But I never understood why behavior of those specific individuals should make everyone else bad simply because of the same race.
Compared to the level of racism minorities can experience in Russia, what people of color have in other countries - is nothing. They do actually have more power compared to what they could have in Russia simply because they can sue based on *supposed* racial bias. In Russian you can't do that, because there are no laws related to race or any type of discrimination. Well, maybe besides like 1 clause in laws about employment, but I have not heard about any cases leveraging that one.
As Amala Ekpunobi said in her reaction video to this one, the future is with race neutrality. Future is where color or sex or size or identity do not matter at all. Future is when I do not see corporate email with subject "Black woman did this", but where it says "First_name Last_name did this", and color comes into play only when it's a biography piece or when the action described is about fighting actual racism and persevering.
Future is when actions matter more. And furthermore - where current actions matter more than past actions, because people can make mistakes and they can change.
